Book Review:
The narrative of ‘The Magic of the lost temple’ surrounds the general apathy that city-bred children have these days when it is time to go back to their native village to spend time with their grandparents.
The author is Sudha Murthy who has given us fabulous stories like ‘The Magic Drum’ and ‘Several Thousand Stitches.’ In her classic trademark simplistic style Sudha Murthy makes this a heartwarming narrative that will keep you turning the pages.
The central theme is the journey of the girl as she tries to cope living in the village with her Grandparents. It is a simple narrative of the challenges the girl faces as her mom is away studying and her dad is busy with work. The story takes on a happy turn as the child finds ways to enjoy her life in the village. She seems to quickly adapt to the slow pace of the village. She slowly decides to explore it. Eventually she takes adventures on her own, even stumbling upon an old ancient temple. There’s drama, there’s emotion and there’s intrigue, all weaved in cleverly by Sudha Murthy.
It is a perfect book for children hesitant to go back to the village. This book may change their minds. You might find yourself packing your bags soon.
This is a must read for children aged between 8 years to 12 years.
