The book is primarily about a child who is different from other children. Published in the year 2012, it is a book that became popular for igniting awareness about the social and emotional challenges of ‘different’ children.
The child protagonist called August Pullman was born with a facial difference and is raised by a loving protective family. A large part of the story is about the child’s foray into middle school after being homeschooled throughout. This school life comes with its shares of ups and downs - bullying and friendships...
Wonder is written for children like Auggie. For families like Auggie’s. It's sentimental, it’s relevant and gripping. It’s honesty in laying out raw emotions is what makes the story real and relatable.
It's a beautiful read because
It throws light on the experiences of children who are slightly different and must face socially challenging situations
It invokes and guides the reader into emotional journey with the children protagonist, naturally evoking empathy in the reader
It indirectly teaches children the importance of compassion and how it can be a gift in some people’s lives.
