Book Review: The Ickabog

Book: The Ickabog

Genre: Fantasy

Ages: 7yrs to 9yrs

The Ickabog is quite different from the ‘Harry Potter’ series. So, if you are a Harry Potter fan, you must expect something different.

It is a beautiful story, nevertheless. Like always, J.K. Rowling has the reader engaged from the very first page.

Published in 2007, the book received positive reviews and came out as a bestseller.

The narrative revolves around the ‘good triumphs over evil’ theme.

The story teaches you about life and people. It highlights the emotions that hover over a decision. The author manages to take the readers on an emotional journey, leaving them on the edge.

It is beautiful to understand the perspectives and reasoning that go into that decisive moment. The moment when you decide what is the right thing to do.

The lessons from the book are:

  • Having regrets is pointless: Do not mull over things you have no control over.

  • Do not lie: Do not get into a habit of lying. Once you begin, it is a loop that never ends.

  • Have the courage to stand up for what’s right

It is a special book, as J K Rowling released this book online gradually between May 2020 and July 2020.

Statistics reveal that the Ickabog website had more than five million views within the first 24 hours.

The book is no longer available online for free reading. J K Rowling decided to donate all royalties from this book to charity. So go buy the book and help someone.
