The Long Walk to Water written by Linda Sue Park was published in the year 2010 and was an instant Bestseller! The book is a beautiful narrative that astutely blends truth with fiction.
A poignant tale written about the lives of two children who have similar struggles. The story is set in Sudan during the time of civil war. It deals with issues that are a fall out from the war. It revolves around the boy’s separation from his family and his daily struggle with survival.
The heart wrenching tale takes on his journey with honesty. It tells us how a young boy is forced to take on a leadership role. It tells us how a young boy is forced to watch people around him die. Most importantly it tells us how he survives despite grueling hardships.
It ends on a note of hope, glorifying the human spirit, its resilience and the magic of humanity.
This is an amazing, thought provoking read for children. It subtly, intentionally nudges those horse’s blinkers out a bit to give the reader a larger, more real perspective of the world.
